The program consists of three one-act ballets Aria, Chant du Compagnon Errant, Ce que l’amour me dit.
The St Petersburg public will have the opportunity to acquaint with a most interesting phenomenon of the world’s ballet. Maurice Béjart(1927-2007) is one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century, his creative work changed the idea of ballet art. ‘I mostly appreciate the fact that through my work I managed to open the art of ballet to different public’, Maurice Béjart once said. Together with his company Maurice Béjart undertook a great experiment in creating synthetic performances where dance, pantomime and vocal coexist on equal terms.
Among the legendary of Béjart’s company there was Jorge Donn and Suzanne Farrell. Today the Béjart Ballet Lausanne is the company of young dancers with impeccable technique brought up in the traditions of classical ballet, contemporary choreography and drama. The company continues the traditions of its great founder, keeping the style and high standards of performance. Their dance is accurate and piercing, acute and spectacular.
Maurice Béjart created over 200 ballet pieces. He founded the company in 1960. For the last 50 years it has turned into synthetic theatre with its own esthetics based on the combination of various choreographic styles and using all the plastique capabilities of human body.
The design of his productions was created by Salvador Dalí, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Gianni Versace. Maurice Béjart used to cooperate with outstanding dancers, Rudolph Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Maya Plisetskaya, Natalia Makarova, Ekaterina Maximova, Vladimir Vassiliev, Farukh Ruzimatov and Diana Vishneva among others.
Russian ballet fans have always appreciated Béjart’s works.
