Yesterday evening the Mikhailovsky Ballet presented Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. The performance opened with a ceremony presided over by the Head of the Presidential Administration Sergey Naryshkin. A reception celebrating cooperation between the two countries was held after the performance.
Vladimir Kekhman, General Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre: “It was 30 years ago that the Mikhailovsky Theatre first went on tour of Japan. Since that time the Mikhailovsky Theatre and Japan have been warm friends and we are proud of this relationship. Traditionally the annual tour isn’t limited to the capital, we also visit different provinces, so it is no exaggeration to say that the Mikhailovsky Theatre is known and loved in every part of the country. Classical music and musical theatre form an important part of the Russo-Japanese relationship and this will never lose value. Success in this field indicates that our countries have great potential for cooperation in many other spheres”.
