Student Wednesdays

Student Wednesdays, which offer students the opportunity to see the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s most popular productions at a student-friendly rate, will continue in the New Year. As before, on one Wednesday of each month, students can purchase tickets for an opera or ballet at a reduced price. By presenting a student card at the box office, a student can reserve any seat in the auditorium for just RUB 700.

Student Wednesdays, introduced at the beginning of the season, immediately attracted the interest of young people, the most attentive and demanding audience. The special ticket price is not the only thing that brings in young theatregoers. Students appreciate having access to the most interesting and popular productions, those which always play to full houses and are therefore usually too pricey for students to attend. Students buy their tickets in advance and occupy a large part of the auditorium at the productions offered to them.

The first production to play at a Student Wednesday in the New Year will be Antonín Dvořák’s opera Rusalka on 11 January. Students will be the first to be acquainted with the theatre’s new Musical Director and Principal Conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov, who will make his conducting debut on that evening. The Mikhailovsky Theatre is holding a second Student Wednesday in January: on St. Tatiana’s Day (25 January); Nacho Duato’s one-act ballets – the triptych Without WordsDuendePrelude – will be performed especially for students. And on 28 March students will have the chance to see Nacho Duato’s latest work and this season’s outstanding premiere, the ballet The Sleeping Beauty. Ludwig Minkus’ La Bayadère on 15 February, choreographed by Marius Petipa, will be part of the student programme, representing the classical ballet repertoire.

Tickets for Student Wednesdays are available only at the Mikhailovsky Theatre box office. One ticket may be purchased for each student ID presented. Students must present a valid student ID or ISIC card when attending the production.
