Russian Seasons of the XXI century at the Mikhailovsky TheatreThe Maris Liepa Charitable Foundation presents a new ballet programme based on the legendary productions of the Diaghilev’s enterprise. |
| The ballet Tamar, ballet miniatures Bolero and L’après-midi d’un faune are revived in the framework of the project Russian Seasons of the XXI century led by the famous dancer Andris Liepa. On 22 and 23 March the Kremlin Ballet Company along with the ballet stars Irma Nioradze, Ilse Liepa and Nikolay Tsiskaridze will perform at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. Yurius Smoriginas restored the lost Fokine’s choreography of Tamar based on Lermontov’s story set to Mily Balakirev’s music. The original sets by Lev Bakst were also lost but the designers Anna and Anatoly Nezhny used the rare photos of the early 20th century to convey the spirit of the epoch. Bolero set to music by Maurice Ravel and L’après-midi d’un faune set to music by Claude Debussy were staged by Andris Liepa on the basis of Bronislava Nijinska’s and Vaclav Nijinsky’s choreography. The sets by Alexander Benois and Lev Bakst were revived with careful attention to every detail. The performances are accompanied by the St Petersburg State Academic Symphonic Orchestra led by Alexander Titov. |
