Pedro Alcalde will conduct Nacho Duato’s première performances
The famous Spanish conductor and composer Pedro Alcalde will conduct Nacho Duato’s première performances on 15, 16 and 31 March at the Mikhailovsky Theatre and on 19 March during the Moscow tour of the theatre.



Pedro Alcalde and Nacho Duato have cooperating for more than 10 years. In January 1998, he conducted the premiere of Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev with choreography by Nacho Duato for the Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND). From that date until 2010, he worked as Musical Director of the CND.

During his collaboration with Nacho Duato and the CND, he conducted numerous productions featuring music by Górecki, Vivaldi, Stravinsky, Wagner and many more. Since 2004 he has composed with Sergio Caballero for Nacho Duato and the CND the music for six ballets:  Herrumbre, Diecisiete, Alas, Hevel, Cobalto and Jardín infinito, the latter being a production for the Chekhov International Theatre Festival of Moscow.

Pedro Alcalde was born in Barcelona, where he studied piano, flute, violin, composition, and graduated in Philosophy at the University of Barcelona. Later he received a Master of Arts degree at Columbia University, New York, where he studied composition and orchestral conducting. He also obtained his Doctorate in Musicology and Philosophy at the Freie Universität of Berlin. Pedro Alcalde has conducted numerous orchestras including those from Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Ferrara, Rome, Bologna, New York, Berlin, Frankfurt and Osaka. His multidisciplinary interests have leaded him to participate in a wide variety of projects. He has conducted the music composed by Alberto Iglesias for the first film directed by John Malkovich: The Dancer Upstairs. The music won the Rota Soundtrack Award at the 2002 edition of the Venice Film Festival. In 2009, he composed the soundtrack of Circuit (2010) a film by Xavier Ribera featuring Sophie Auster and Vincent Martínez and which has been selected at the film festivals of Málaga, Shangai and Karlovi Vari.
