Kings of the Dance, which played to packed houses on two evenings at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, is continuing its tour in other cities, but audience favourite Ivan Vasiliev is already planning his next appearance at the Mikhailovsky.



Exhibition of Theatre Posters

During the new season the dress circle foyer will feature an exhibition of original theatre posters. For several decades this unique collection has been carefully maintained in the archives. Now the finest examples of theatre graphics are returning to the public.



Kings of the Dance
8 and 9 October

“The Mikhailovsky Theatre is becoming a real ‘home for kings’”, says Sergey Danilian, Creative Director and Producer of the international project Kings of the Dance, “This is the second time the theatre has lent its stage for performances by the world’s leading dancers.”



Nobel Laureates Love Opera

On 21 September, the opening day of the opera season, the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s production of La bohème was attended by five Nobel laureates.



Visit of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her husband Prince Henrik made a private visit to the Mikhailovsky Theatre on 12 September. The royal couple was accompanied by the Danish Ambassador to Russia, Tom Risdahl Jensen, and the Danish Consul-General in St. Petersburg, Klaus Sorensen.

In the beginning of the new season the Mikhailovsky Theatre will continue the tradition of showing films that express critical statement of the author and evoke large interest among the critics.



New Season Opens 19 September

On 19 September, the Mikhailovsky Theatre will open its 179th season. The September repertoire will include last season’s two outstanding premieres: Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème and the one-act ballets by Nacho Duato, as well as the acknowledged ballet masterpiece Swan Lake.



LenSpetsStroy: Partner of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Orchestra

Next season, the Mikhailovsky’s 179th, the orchestra will have an official partner: the LenSpetsStroy construction company. This partnership was announced at the close of the opera season on 28 July.



Student Wednesdays

In its 179th season, the Mikhailovsky Theatre is launching a new project: Student Wednesdays. On one Wednesday each month, the theatre’s best ballet and opera productions will be performed especially for students. On production of a student card at the box office, any seat in the auditorium will cost RUB 700, substantially less than the usual price.



Elena Obraztsova Celebrates her Birthday on Stage
Guests at the gala concert titled A Bridge Between Dresden and St. Petersburg greeted Elena Obraztsova with an ovation. The celebration, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the twin-city relations between Dresden and St. Petersburg, was enriched by a warm personal note: on the day of the gala, the legendary singer celebrated her birthday.
