On 18 November People’s Artist of the USSR Elena Obraztsova will perform the role of the Countess in The Queen of Spades.



Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev to Join the Mikhailovsky Theatre

Ballet stars Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev have decided to move to the Mikhailovsky Theatre. The renowned ballet dancers have appeared at the Mikhailovsky Theatre many times as guest performers; they will be joining the theatre’s company from 01 December 2011. Natalia Osipova will take the position of prima ballerina, and Ivan Vasiliev that of principal dancer of the Mikhailovsky Theatre.



Nacho Duato under the Golden Floodlight

On 07 November St. Petersburg’s prestigious Zolotoi Sofit (Golden Floodlight) awards were presented in a ceremony at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. Nacho Duato, the Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet, was among those recognized for his accomplishments and innovative work in the theatrical arts.



Getting Closer to Romeo and Juliet

During the school holidays the Mikhailovsky Theatre will host a programme of lectures and excursions especially for the young performers of the Upsala Children’s Circus. The Upsala Circus is a project that uses circus training to help children and adolescents from social risk groups to integrate into society.



Neil Shicoff in La Juive

On 25 and 30 October, the celebrated Neil Shicoff will be appearing in the season premiere of Fromental Halévy’s La Juive. St. Petersburg listeners are already well acquainted with his ‘classic’ interpretation of the role of Eléazar, which will only heighten interest and guarantee a full house for every performance.



Hubbard Street Dance Chicago

The renowned American ballet company Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will be appearing at the Mikhailovsky Theatre on 16 and 17 November. This Chicago-based company, considered the leader in contemporary dance, performs in over 40 countries each year.

A Bolshoi Theatre Star in La traviata

On 23 October, opera lovers will have an exciting chance to see a young opera star. On that date, Violetta in La traviata will be sung by Anna Aglatova.

Aris Argiris, a Greek-born singer on the fast track to international stardom, is making his Russian debut. On 18 October he is playing the role of Renato in Verdi’s opera Un ballo in maschera. In a break between rehearsals Argiris described how his opera career took off and how he became the world’s first 3D Escamillo, while also sharing his thoughts about how an operatic character is not a one-dimensional figure, but a person with a living soul.

A host of truly superb singers representing a range of vocal schools will come together in Verdi’s opera Un ballo in maschera on 18 October. The production will feature the guest soloists Elena Pankratova (Amelia), Larisa Kostyuk (Ulrica) and Aris Argiris (Renato). Mikhailovsky Theatre soloist Fyodor Ataskevich will sing the part of Gustavo.
