A Word of Thanks to the Partners of the Grand Prix

The Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix 2011, the third annual competition for students at Russian ballet schools, has drawn to a close. We are confident that the young participants can all look forward to a bright future. These students have dreamed of appearing on the same stage as recognized ballet stars and of having the chance to demonstrate their abilities. This dream has come true thanks to the help of the theatre’s friends and partners, to whom we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks.



Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix Winners Announced

The Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix awards ceremony was held on 1 December. Having watched and analysed the finalists’ performances, the Artistic Council of the Grand Prix agreed unanimously on the list of award-winners.



Live Internet Broadcasts of the Grand Prix

The Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix on 30 November and 01 December will be broadcast live on the Internet. Ballet lovers all over the world will be able to watch performances by pupils of Russia’s leading choreographic schools and by recognized stars.



Queen Paola of Belgium Visits the Mikhailovsky Theatre

During a private visit to Russia, Her Majesty Queen Paola of Belgium visited the Mikhailovsky Theatre. After a short tour of the theatre with General Director Vladimir Kekhman, the Queen attended a rehearsal of the ballet Madrigal.



Olesya Novikova and Leonid Sarafanov in Giselle

On 27 November the ballet Giselle will feature Olesya Novikova and Leonid Sarafanov in its lead roles.



Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix 2011

Preparations are under way for the Mikhailovsky Theatre Grand Prix, the annual show-competition for students at Russian schools of choreography. This year’s ‘Competition of High Hopes’ (as it is known among ballet professionals) will bring together students and teachers from Moscow, Perm, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ufa, and St Petersburg. Ballet-lovers will be able to experience the talents being nurtured in Russia’s leading choreographic schools during the young dancers’ performances on 30 November and 1 December.



Golden Mask Nominations for the 2010/11 Season

The Mikhailovksy Theatre has been nominated for eleven Golden Mask awards for the 2010/11 season, with some of the theatre’s productions in the running for the title of ‘Best Opera’ and ‘Best Ballet’.



Journalists invited to a rehearsal

At 14:00 on 20 November Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev will rehearse in the large rehearsal hall, and journalists have been invited to attend.



Angelina Atlagić: It sometimes seems as though we are living in a dream

December will bring the premiere of the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s new production of The Sleeping Beauty, choreographed by Nacho Duato. Serbian artist Angelina Atlagić is designing the costumes and scenery for the ballet. Her vision for the set design blends the classical and the contemporary, combining tradition and innovation.
