On Stage at the Mikhailovsky: Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball)
On July 21st, the première of a new production of Verdi’s opera Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball), staged by Andrejs Žagars, General Director of the Latvian National Opera and one of Europe’s foremost directors, played to a sell-out audience at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
   
The performance was conducted by the theatre’s musical director and chief conductor, Peter Feranec. The Mikhailovsky’s leading soloists Maria Litke, Roman Burdenko and Dmitry Golovnin appeared in the roles of Amelia, Renato and Gustav respectively, with worldwide opera sensation Larissa Diadkova as Ulrica. The Mikhailovsky Theatre is set to close its 177th season with the next première performance of the opera on July 23rd.
