The evening started with the address of Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin, who summed up the decisions of the Forum and thanked the guests of the Mikhailovsky Theatre taking a special note of Leonardo DiCaprio. At the moment the famous actor was already at the Mikhailovsky Theatre but it took him a while to get to St Petersburg. ‘If such people protect nature and tigers, we’re destined to succeed,’ Vladimir Putin commented. Musician Ilya Lagutenko and top model Naomi Campbell hosted the event. Among the guests of the evening there were rock musicians from the countries which are the natural habitat of the tiger — Ella and The Love Beggars from Malaysia, Chinese singer Liu XiJun and an intellectual pop-rock group Wang Feng also from China. The biologist and game manager Anatoly Belov, the inspector of the ‘Kedrovaya pad’ Conservation Park and the ‘Leopard’ special Nature Reserve in Primorsk region, who has recently been awarded with the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Conservation Medal, came to the concert. Nikolay Drozdov, the presenter of the popular Wild Life TV programme, not only told the public about the behaviour of the tigers but also sang a song dedicated to Anatoly Belov. At the end of the evening Ilya Lagutenko, who showed off his knowledge of Chinese, came onstage as a musician and together with his Mumy Troll band and captivated the public with the fiery rock-n-roll. A personal meeting on wild nature between Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin and Leonardo DiCaprio took place at the Mikhailovsky Theatre after the concert. DiCaprio also gave an exclusive interview to Channel 1. ‘It’s very important that in the project we combined almost incompatible things. Tiger is a symbol of natural power and theatre is the personification of refined Petersburg culture. Both things are essential for people of our times,’ General Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Vladimir Kekhman commented. |
