Lectures before the Performance
The Mikhailovsky Theatre continues the series of lectures before the performances. The cycle introduces the repertory productions of the theatre featuring the specialties of opera and ballet genres, briefs the history of the productions. The lectures disclose the tricks of stage direction and design.
Professor Nikita Dolgushin delivers the story about the ballets Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Oleg Vinogradov, Le Corsaire revised by Farukh Ruzimatov, The Moor’s Pavane by José Limón set to music by Henry Purcell. The brief history of classical choreography, Romantic ballet and modern dance will be accompanied by vivid details from the stage career of the outstanding dancer.

The theatre historian and singer Vsevolod Bogatyryov will present operas Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi, La Juive by Jacques Fromental Halévy, Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák, and Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni. The public will hear the story about the masterpieces of the “grand style”, opera verismo, and the peculiarities of the productions at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
