| Niels-Peter Rudolph highly praised the work of the artists. In his interview to the St Petersburg Vedomosti Newspaper the stage director said: “I like the feedback from the Russian singers, they are open to everything new. And the management of the Mikhailovsky Theatre seems to be interested in opening to the West.” The stage director especially liked working with the performers of the role of Kát’a — Tatiana Ryaguzova, Anna Nechayeva and Maria Litke. “I’m impressed by the Russian singers and Russian women in general. I’m impressed by their power and self-assurance. They manage to show the men what important role thy play for the men. When I’m asked at home about my impressions, I’ll answer that I’ll remember the sound of high heels at the Russian theatre.” The première was lead by Peter Feranec, Music Director and Conductor of the production. “Janáček’s works are full of the things that sweep away our contemporaries. And the music sounds very fresh. During the first rehearsals the musicians kept saying how contemporary the music was. And they were saying that about the score that is almost 80 years old — but today it seems to be avant-garde. It might have not been love at first sight with Kát’a Kabanová, but the feeling is much more powerful and stable. But it seems to me that the public will fall in love with Kát’a Kabanová at first sight.” The première performances will take place on 4 January 2011 and 3 February 2011. |
