| The dancers have mastered a wide range of choreographic styles, combining graceful expressiveness with subtle emotional nuances, and creating an innovative and bold repertoire. Many outstanding choreographers have worked with Hubbard Street Dance, including Jiří Kylián and Twyla Tharp. Nacho Duato, who has staged several ballets for the company, invited the dancers to perform in Russia. The history of the group began in 1977, when choreographer Lou Conte opened a dance studio at the intersection of LaSalle and Hubbard Streets in Chicago. He remained as the company’s Artistic Director for 23 years. Jim Vincent took over in 2000, and since 2009 the group has been led by Glenn Edgerton. Over the course of its history, the company has staged approximately 200 productions. Glenn Edgerton maintains that the integration of dancers, choreographers, and viewers into a single inspirational process underpins Hubbard Street Dance’s success: “Our company is made up of passionate individuals who come to work every day because of the beauty they can create in our programmes and projects. Creativity generates oxygen.” The group’s performances at the Mikhailovsky Theatre will include the following ballets: — Following the Subtle Current Upstream. Choreographer: Alonzo King — SCARLATTI. Choreographer: Twyla Tharp — THREE TO MAX. Choreographer: Ohad Naharin. |
