Hockey, ballet and a tiger
On 27 November 2010 the ballet Spartacus was attended by the team of SKA Ice Hockey Club. Before the performance a press conference was held starring Alexander Medvedev, President of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and SKA Ice Hockey Club, a forward of SKA Alexey Yashin, General Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Vladimir Kekhman and a soloist of the Mikhailovsky Ballet Vera Arbuzova.

The ice hockey players and ballerinas met in the framework of the photo project The Triumph of Difference. The contrast of brutal sport and transitory art inspired the renowned photographer Vladimir Glynin to create a series of photos which were presented in the foyer on 27 November. The materials were used for street billboards and for the gigantic banner on Moskovsky prospect.

The union of sport and art can result in many other ways — some of them were mentioned at the press conference. Inspired by the informal talks with the journalists, the hockey players proceeded to the auditorium to enjoy the passions and battles of Spartacus — a most popular and spectacular ballets at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. That evening a live tiger took part in the performance. The keen interest in the rare predator could be explained quite easily: several days before an original charitable concert Let’s help the tiger was held at the theatre.
