Elena Obraztsova can't perform in The Queen of Spades on 24 May
The appearance of the People’s Artist of the USSR, Elena Obraztsova, in the opera The Queen of Spades on May 24, which was announced earlier, is now cancelled.


Elena offers her apology: “I arrived in St. Petersburg with the desire and firm intention to perform on stage of the Mikhailovsky Theatre. But protracted bronchitis, which has been overpowering me for eighteen months now, remains an obstacle to my plans to sing the Countess in The Queen of Spades. No matter how badly I would like to appear on stage, unfortunately, my medical condition does not allow me to do so.

Please, accept my apologies. I hope that on June 18, when my partner in the production is Neil Shicoff, my health will not fail me. I am extremely upset about this, since throughout over 48 years of my creative work I have only canceled my appearance 6 times.”
