An Evening at the Mikhailovsky for 10 Roubles

On 14 February, St. Petersburg will celebrate its very own ‘Day of Love’, an initiative organized by the city’s Culture Committee. More than 20 theatres are participating in the celebration. On the Day of Love, a visit to the theatre will be possible for those who cannot normally afford it.



Iréne Theorin in Cavalleria Rusticana

February brings another chance to hear the outstanding singer Iréne Theorin at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. The Swedish dramatic soprano, whose voice is known throughout Europe, staggered St. Petersburg theatregoers with her performance in the gala concert A Bridge between Dresden and St. Petersburg at the Mikhailovsky Theatre on 7 July 2011.



The Mikhailovsky Theatre on Tour in Japan

The Mikhailovsky Theatre company has returned from their New Year tour of Japan. From 3 December to 15 January the performers appeared in Japan’s major cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and others.



Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev to Make Their Debut
in Laurencia

Laurencia, the dynamic and colourful ballet based on Lope de Vega’s play, seems to have been created especially for Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev, who recently joined the Mikhailovsky Theatre company.



Student Wednesdays

Student Wednesdays, which offer students the opportunity to see the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s most popular productions at a student-friendly rate, will continue in the New Year. As before, on one Wednesday of each month, students can purchase tickets for an opera or ballet at a reduced price. By presenting a student card at the box office, a student can reserve any seat in the auditorium for just RUB 700.



New Year Holidays

The New Year holiday is one of everybody’s favourite festive occasions, best celebrated with close friends and family. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Mikhailovsky Theatre offers excellent opportunities for a family outing.



The Beauty Awakes

16 December saw the premiere of the new production of The Sleeping Beauty. It is the work of a multinational team: choreographer-producer and Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Ballet Nacho Duato, set and costume designer Angelina Atlagić, and lighting designer Brad Fields. The ballet was conducted by Valery Ovsyanikov.



Mikhail Messerer – Principal Guest Ballet Master of the Mikhailovsky Theatre

Mikhail Messerer is continuing his work with the Mikhailovsky Theatre as Principal Guest Ballet Master. His contract has been extended until December 2012.



Mikhail Tatarnikov to Be the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s Musical Director and Principal Conductor

The young musician from the St. Petersburg conducting school, who has worked at the Mariinsky Theatre for five years, will take up his new post on 1 January 2012.
