Valery Ovsyanikov / Conductor

Valery Ovsyanikov was born near Moscow in 1960. He graduated from
St. Petersburg Conservatory twice – in 1985 as a chorus master and as an opera and symphony conductor in 1991. He has been conducting at the Mariinsky Theatre since 1990 as well as being a Music Director of the Vaganova Ballet Academy.
He has worked with different orchestras in Russia and abroad including Tokyo Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony, Mexico Philharmonic, San Jose Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Kansai Symphony, Kennedy Centre Orchestra, State Orchestra of Lithuania and others.
As a guest conductor worked with the following opera houses: Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Bayerisches Staatsoper, Swedish Royal Opera, Finnish National Opera, Lithuanian National Opera. Also performed in the Teatro Regio (Turin), Beijing Opera House, Teatro Real (Madrid), Ankara Opera House (Turkey), Theatre Champs-Elysees (Paris) and Singapore Opera House. He has also conducted a few Gala Performances including Maya Plisetzkaya’s 80 Anniversary, Diaghilev’s Centenary (London) and 12th World Ballet Festival (Tokyo, 2009).

- Operas Evgeny Onegin, Faust, The Barber of Seville, Aleko;
- Ballets The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Manon, La Bayadère , Don Quixote, Giselle, La Sylphide , Le Corsaire, Fountain of Bachtschissarai, Jewels, Rhapsody, Symphony in C, Marguerite and Armand, Onegin, and others.
Discography: recorded a number of CDs of choral sacred and Russian symphonic music and 3 DVDs with Royal Opera Orchestra (London).
