OrchestraMany factors contribute to the success of the Mikhailovsky orchestra — the sound of the instruments is one of them. We will highly appreciate your help in maintaining instruments in perfect condition. The word ‘orchestra’ originated in Ancient Greece. The Greeks called the semicircular area of the theatre the orchestra; later the word was used for the special pit between the stalls and the stage, and subsequently for the musicians themselves. Under the direction of its chief conductor Peter Feranec the Mikhailovsky Theatre Orchestra has achieved a depth and nobility of sound that bear comparison with the orchestras of Europe’s leading opera houses. Many factors have contributed to this success: the mastery of the conductor, the virtuosity of the musicians and the sound of the instruments. In order to preserve the sound quality all the instruments have to be maintained in perfect condition and serviced, repaired and replaced as necessary. Your contribution will help improve the sound quality of our orchestra and will be of great importance for the theatre. |
