In April 21st, 22nd and 23rd the Mikhailovsky Theatre will host one of the world’s most famous ballet companies, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne (Switzerland). The program consists of three one-act ballets Aria, Chant du Compagnon Errant, Ce que l’amour me dit. The St Petersburg public will have the opportunity to acquaint with the most interesting phenomenon of the world’s ballet. Maurice Béjart (1927-2007) is one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century, his creative work changed the idea of ballet art. Together with his company Maurice Béjart undertook a great experiment in creating synthetic performances where dance, pantomime and vocal coexist on equal terms.

Among the legendary dancers of Béjart’s company there was Jorge Donn and Suzanne Farrell. Today the Béjart Ballet Lausanne is the company of young dancers with impeccable technique brought up in the traditions of classical ballet, contemporary choreography and drama. The company continues the traditions of its great founder, maintaining the style and high standards of performances. Their dance is accurate and piercing, acute and spectacular.

In April 28th the Mikhailovsky Theatre is presenting the legendary American tenor Neil Shicoff as Eléazar in La Juive by Jacques Halévy. This famed singer has performed on the world’s best stages: Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Paris Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden. His repertory is also extremely diverse — the principal tenor parts in such operas as Werther, Ernani, Faust, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Il Trovatore. He is excellent as Lensky in Eugene Onegin, as well as the dramatic Herman in The Queen of Spades and many other parts. Yet, amidst all scenic characters, performed at different times, Eleazar in La Juive stands out and is justifiably considered to be his best part yet. For the first time the singer made his debut as Elezar in 1999 on the stage of the Vienna Opera. His performance won the hearts of the audience, since then it is Neil Shicoff that theatres worldwide wish to see as the leading singer of this opera. Besides his brilliant vocal gift, he is an exceptional singer who can turn a standard part into the rendition of a staggering personality. That is why Neil Shicoff was once named the Al Pacino of the opera. Viewers in St Petersburg will be given a chance to enjoy his stunning performance at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
