Musical InstrumentsThe Mikhailovsky Theatre is planning on buying a “Steinway” upright piano to use at both rehearsals and performances. The project will cost 690,000 rubles. Piano is one of the most sophisticated musical instruments when it comes to diversity and beauty of the sound as well as the ability to transfer the subtlest intentions and individuality of the musician. Upright piano is a kind of instrument where the strings are arranged vertically rather than horizontally, so that it takes much less space than a grand piano, fits easily into an orchestra pit and is often used in performances. Furthermore, not a single stage rehearsal can go through without it, and normally there can be from 2 to 10 of them before each opera and ballet takes place on stage in front of the audience. The only people at these rehearsals are a pianist, an accompanist, a conductor and actors. For both rehearsals and performances the musical instrument should be of the highest quality and the sound has to be excellent. There are over 1000 piano manufactures worldwide. The value of a musical instrument depends on many factors: the quality of wood and paint coating, the quality of the strings, the size of the instrument, and the manufacture. There are a lot of well-known, reputable brands, but not single one of them has been as unconditionally recognized by everyone as “Steinway”. The classic “Steinway” piano UP 118, Boston series, has simple external appearance, but the sound according to the world music community is perfection. It is this kind of "Steinway" that is considered to be an ideal musical instrument for musical academies and theaters around the world. The support of this acquisition by the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s Friends will provide all the viewers with an opportunity to enjoy the unique sound of this musical instrument at our productions. |
