SIBUR is the leading petrochemical company in Russia. One of its main activities is processing of associated gas — a by-product of oil extraction — to make things for human everyday living. The company’s subsidiaries operate across the production chain, from primary processing of hydrocarbons to the manufacture of finished goods.
Thirty four plants in 21 regions of Russia employ around 80,000 people to make over 100 different petrochemical products. In addition to its three core businesses (gas processing, plastics production and rubber production), SIBUR comprises two sub-holdings in the mineral fertilizer and tyre sectors.
In 2007, SIBUR produced 13.9 million tonnes of petrochemicals, 37 per cent of which was exported to over 70 countries. In 2008, the company invested 40.9 billion roubles in the development of the Russian petrochemical industry, including up-grade of existing facilities and construction of modern plants to manufacture propylene, polypropylene, PVC, expandable polystyrene and other products.
One of SIBUR’s key goals is to process greater volumes of associated gas, a substantial part of which is currently flared, resulting in pollution of the Earth’s atmosphere.
SIBUR believes that social responsibility is a precondition for its successful and sustainable development. Sponsorship and charity form one aspect of the company’s community activities. Through its social investment programmes, SIBUR is furthering the development of medicine, education, sports and culture. The company has supported the Mikhailovsky Theatre since 2008.
SIBUR is incorporated in the city of St.Petersburg.
